  • How long does the road test take? What are the main items for the road test?
    The road test takes about ten minutes. The road test is mainly divided into the starting preparation stage, all way stop signs, stop signs, three point or U-turn, turning left, turning right, and parallel parking. (There are many details that need to be deducted, which will be covered in the teaching process.)
  • I only know a few daily English sentences, can I pass the road test?
    For students with weak English foundation, please communicate in a timely manner. Stars has a specialized road test English vocabulary training before the exam, which can help students eliminate language and listening concerns.
  • How old can I take a driver's license?
    You can apply for a New York driver's license at the age of 16. If under the age of 18, parents/guardians can submit a parent/guardian identity and/or residence statement (Form MV-45). The required information can be found at the top of the Stars Driving School website by clicking on "Complete Information". Applicants under the age of 21 must wait at least 6 months after receiving the Junior Leaner Permit before they can apply for the road test.
  • Is the driving test the same as the driving license test process in China?
    Different, the US driver's license exam is not divided by subject. Only conduct written and road tests. The road test is a one-time assessment.
  • How long does it take to take for the road test?
    For those with driving experience, it usually takes two weeks to receive the learner's permit after completing the written test. Only then can I arrange to take the road test.
  • I have a Chinese driver's license, can I directly change to a New York driver's license?
    No way. Canadian and foreign driver's licenses can be exchanged directly after settling in New York, while other foreign driver's licenses must be reapplied for in accordance with the standard process. Holding a Chinese driver's license requires starting from scratch in New York State.
  • Can I take the driver's license if my work card (C8) has expired?
    No way. A driver's license is associated with a work card. Your work card has expired and you cannot obtain your driver's license. And once the work card expires, the driver's license will also become invalid. In this situation, people with expired work cards should never drive again. (Starting from December 2019, the New York State Greenlight NY has officially come into effect, allowing undocumented immigrants to apply for a New York State driver's license.)
  • What is the validity period of a driver's license?
    For D/DJ/E driver's licenses, the maximum validity period from the moment of obtaining the learner's license, along with subsequent official driver's licenses, is 5 years.
  • I have passed my road test for a month now. Can you check my driver's license information?
    Click on the DMV (New York State Motor Vehicle Administration) website and enter the student car license ID to search for: https://dmv.ny.gov/mydmv/mydmv .
  • I am an experienced driver now. Can I take the exam directly?
    It is recommended that experienced professionals not overlook the differences in traffic regulations between China and the United States. Even if you are an experienced driver with a good driving record, please temporarily let go of your driving habits during the road test and obediently do the necessary actions (such as turning your head before changing lanes, firmly braking for 3 seconds before stopping, etc.).
  • Can I use my own car for the exam?
    Can I use my own car for the exam? Yes. The vehicles used for driving school training and exams are not exclusive. Students can use their own private cars for learning or use the driving school's coach car for practice. But the road test must be accompanied by a legitimate and formal driver's license holder before entering the test venue. Please note that the vehicle's annual inspection label has not expired, and the accompanying person must bring a valid and valid driver's license.
  • Can I choose an examiner for the exam?
    No way. The daily number of examiners in each examination room is not fixed, and they are randomly assigned during the exam.
  • What is the process for taking a driver's license in New York?
    The New York driving test is divided into a written test and a road test. Step 1: Bring all the materials, choose the nearest DMV (New York State Motor Vehicle Administration) to register, and pass the written test. The written test question bank only has over 120 questions. You can practice online by searching for "New York State Driver's License Written Test Simulation Question" online. You can go to the DMV official website to read the "New York Driver's License Handbook" for details. (Knock on the blackboard!) There is no need to make an appointment for the written exam. Fill out the form and select the number, and take the exam as you come. You can choose to use Chinese for the exam. The written test is to do Multiple choice on the computer. There is no limit on the number of times, but there is only one chance a day. Each time, 20 questions are completed, and no more than 6 questions are wrong. Step 2: After passing the written test, submit all the materials on-site and pay a fee (approximately $70) to obtain a paper learner's permit. The materials required on site include: • US citizen passport 4 points Citizen paper 3 points Green card 3 points C8, C9, A5 3 points Social Security Card 2 points Foreign passport 3 points (F1 visa requires I-20, I-94) American University Transcript 2 points Credit card 1 point • American Marriage certificate 1 point • Different residency certificates, such as copies of rental contracts, phone bills, utility bills, bank bills, etc. 1 point Each material has a corresponding score, and any material can be collected for 6 points. International students can also bring proof such as school transcripts, no SSN certificate, medical insurance card, etc. The learner's permit (equivalent to a pass in the road test) will be sent to your address within about 14 days.   • I am an international student/tourist business visa. Can I take the driver's license without a social security number?
    Yes. Go to the Social Security Bureau to apply and receive a paper proof of ineligibility letter on the spot, which is valid for 30 days. You must apply for a learner's permit within the validity period. After passing the road test, DMV will still review this certificate. If it expires, they will need to go back to the Social Security Bureau to collect it.
  • Is the DMV of the transportation bureau open on weekends?
    The transportation bureau is closed on statutory holidays, Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Can I take a road test on weekends?
    No, you can take the car test on weekdays from Monday to Friday.
  • Do I need to make an appointment for the road test? How long does the appointment take?
    An appointment is required. You can go to the website of the Traffic Management Bureau or call the Traffic Management Bureau. You can also arrange an appointment for the test period through the driving school. The cycle is usually within 40 days to take the exam.
